Dehydrated skin. It's commonly mistaken for dry skin but believe it or not, you can actually have dehydrated, oily skin! Dehydrated skin is not a "skin type" per se, but it is a condition of the skin which can be overlooked. Today I'm reviewing 3 skincare items aimed at people with tight feeling, perhaps flaky, rough or even itchy skin..... dehydrated skin. I've been trialing these products for the past month, as I feel you need to give skincare a few weeks to see its true potential.
First up is Bioderma's infamous micellar water priced at €5.50 for this cute, little 100ml one. This one, as mentioned, is from the Hydrabio range so it's a cleansing and make-up removing water that respects the fragility of sensitive skin and stimulates moisture. Huge research has gone into Bioderma's micellar waters in particular, so if you'd like to read further on that click >HERE< to be redirected to their website. As far as micellar waters go, they're not a hugely exciting product to talk about, in that they do one thing and that is, remove your make up. Just soak a cotton pad with the water and swipe all over the face. This does a great job at gently doing so. Personally I don't see much of a difference between this micellar water and many others but word has it, it is more naturally compatible with the skin. I did not find it stung the eyes which is a plus. I would especially recommend Bioderma's micellar waters to anyone with sensitive skin, as they are soap-free, fragrance-free, alcohol-free and paraben-free.
The next product I have been trying out is the Bioderma Hydrabio Exfoliating Cream. This I spotted in McCabes Pharmacy for €12.50. I hadn't seen a face scrub specifically for dehydrated skin so I was curious to try it out. This scrub, I really like and this is because of the polyethylene beads in it. I'm fussy about my scrubs in that I'm not fond of "microbeads" that simply feel like they're rolling around the skin as opposed to actually scrubbing it; but this baby scrubs!! Hard to capture the granules on camera but believe me, it does! It buffs away dead skin cells and left my skin feeling squeaky clean and refreshed.
Finally, I have been trying out the Hydrabio Gel-Crème Light Moisturiser. I'm really fond of this guy and I'll tell you why. It does an excellent job at soothing dry, or dehydrated skin and secondly (the reason I like this more than other moisuturisers I've tried) is that it works wonderfully under my foundation. I've had problems in the past when my skin tends to be on the dehydrted side, in that I need to use a moisturiser to aid the tightness of my skin, but the moisturiser can sometimes be too thick under my foundation and it can tend to break it up. This does not do that and I think it's down to it's gel consistency. It has fast become my favourite base to use under my foundation when I'm having dry (*cough*hungover) day!
